Podiatrist Brisbane talks About cures for Plantar Fasciitis [Brisbane]

Having read the Plantar Fasciitis Brisbane Info Sheet about the cause of plantar fasciitis Brisbane, you will now be aware that it comes about because of a mechanical fault within the foot.  The fasciitis may wax and wain over time but the foot fault is permanent.  To 'correct' this poor function, a podiatrist will often make a pair of arch supports called orthotics.  Sometimes a less potent sort of insole will be sufficient, particularly if the problem is mild, recent or if the sufferer is quite advanced in years. Much more information about orthotics is available at the Orthotics Brisbane Info sheet.

At the first appointment with our podiatrist Brisbane, several things usually are achieved. Firstly, a diagnosis will be made.  Secondly, your treatment options will be discussed with you and thirdly treatment will be commenced if you elect to do so.  An additional step that we can provide is to apply a particular kind of strapping to the foot.  Use of this special technique binds the two ends of the arch together into a shortened position.  This will take the elongatory tension off the fascial band immediately.  People do vary somewhat in their response to treatment but I usually tell people that it will reduce the pain by half within half an hour.  This is usually pretty accurate (and is sometimes even an underestimate). When the tape comes off three days later though, the plantar fasciitis Brisbane pain will return with the same speed that it left. This brings us to an important point that has implications down the track.  This shows that the pain can be relieved even when the problem isn't actually resolved at all. Usually, your new orthotics will be ready for you in about a week or quicker for the lesser orthotic varieties Brisbane, during which time you may elect to be taped again to continue getting relief.  Unlike the taping, which grabs your foot and gives you no option but to comply a new style of movement, it will often take up to 10 days before your orthotics come to work to peak efficiency.  This delay occurs because the foot wants to continue to work in the same pattern it always has done.

Our Podiatry Clinic Brisbane requests that you return three weeks after the orthotics are dispensed for an assessment of your progress.  This timing is no accident ! Usually, by the three week mark, you will have had a good reduction in pain.  However, as alluded to above, it is possible to reduce the pain without actually repairing the damage.  The site of the micro-tears has very, very poor blood flow and you should assume that it will take about three months of being able to move around with little or no pain before the damage to the plantar fascial tissue is healed. This means that, while your orthotics are not being worn, you will still be able to experience some pain.  This is particularly true of first-step pain in the mornings.  You should try hard to wear your orthotics a lot and not to experience pain for two reasons.  Firstly, Less Pain. Secondly, pain means damage is still occurring.  Too much pain (i.e. re-injury) will slow down your progress to healing unnecessarily.
